Uploading Videos To YouTube
October 23, 2007 by Bruce Walls
YouTube is by far the most popular video upload and [tag-tec]free video sharing site[/tag-tec] on the entire planet with in excess of 65000 videos a day submitted to them. They account for more than 60 percent of all videos viewed online with 16.3% of all global internet users visiting the site in the third week of October 2007 making it the fourth highest traffic ranked site.
To upload videos to YouTube is easy. YouTube accepts video files from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones in the .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG file formats. YouTube recommends the following settings:
* MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
* 320×240 resolution
* MP3 audio
* 30 frames per second
Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your videos look better on YouTube.
All videos uploaded to YouTube have to be under the 100MB file size limit. The longer the video is, the more compression will be required to fit it into that size. For that reason, most videos on YouTube are under five minutes long and there is a 10-minute length limit for all videos.
That being said a 1 minute 100 Mb file will look better then a 10 minute 100 Mb file. The more raw data you send to YouTube, the better the flash compression process should be. If you are trying to impress and show off your video shooting and editing quality and your video is, let’s say, 6 minutes then you might want to cut your video into three pieces and send then as three stand alone 100 Mb files of two minutes each, rather than as one six minute 100 Mb file with reduced quality.
Now you’re ready to upload it which is dead easy, just follow YouTubes steps.
1. Click “Upload Videos” in the upper-right-hand corner of any YouTube page.
2. Enter as much information about your video as possible, including Title, Description, Tags, and Category. The more information you include, the easier it is for users to find your video!
3. Determine if you want your video set to Public or Private.
4. Click the “Upload a Video” button.
5. In the next window, click the “Browse” button to browse for the video file. Select the file you want to upload.
6. Click the “Upload Video” button.
It is hard to say how long the upload will take, it depends on your ISP, your service and your geographical location, but anywhere between 2 - 60 minutes.
