Video Production: The Amazon Way

February 19, 2010 by Bruce Walls

Are you marketing online with video. Online video is recognized as the easiest, cheapest and fastest way to get traffic to your site. Online video increases conversions and increases sales of your products and services. Here is a quote from one of the masters of online video, Andy Jenkins, The Video Boss.

“Online video gets more money than anything, period”. Incase you do not know, Andy is the video expert behind some of the biggest launches of internet marking programs, and they all used video.

To be successful with online video there are some things that you do not need. You do not need a list, you do not need joint venture partners and you do not need slick copy writing skills. You just need some basic equipment.

Video converts viewers into buyers and video production does not have to be difficult or expensive.
Take a look at the home page of the biggest online sales website, Amazon. Their biggest selling product is their Kindle Reader. It is promoted not by some slick whistle blowing video but by a short video, with photos that pan around, a stock music clip, some titles and a voice talking you through the benefits. It could probably be just as effective without the voice.

So Amazon with all their resources for making videos and testing have decided that a basic, made in one or two hours video is the way to promote their best product. Can you relate to that, how easy it can be to produce your own videos. Most marketers, product and service owners avoid video as they are afraid of the technology, afraid of the costs and afraid of losing time.

These are perceived difficulties but not real difficulties at all if you know better. If you do know better then this fear that most marketers have generates real opportunities for people who do know how to make videos. Search for any ‘how to’ term in Google and there is bound to be one or more videos on the first page. Most of these videos are rather amateurish and you could do a lot better.

But they are ranking in Google, and do you think that the makers or producers of these videos know a lot about marketing. It goes to show that a bad video is better than no video. Think what you can achieve with a little guidance and ignore all the perceived problems about making videos. Now is the time to get started and take advantage of the lack of skilled competition.

None other than the New York times recently stated that ‘online ads are booming, if they are attached to videos. Video marketing is the fastest growing segment of Internet advertising’. So despite video being used for marketing for a few years now it is still seen as difficult and expensive by most product and services owners. But it need not be, remember Amazon and the Kindle.

Here is the equipment that you need to get started. Any computer, it does not need to be new with lots of this and that. You do not need a camera, just make slides using either Microsoft PowerPoint or Keynote from Apple. A suitable microphone headset can be purchased for $40 tops, and that is about it. Learn as you go along or obtain some training for quicker results to get you videos produced and ranking where it matters. For quicker results get trained by The Video Boss.
