Internet Video Views Up Again!

To show the ever increasing importance of internet video figure recently released show how video viewing has increased over the last year and even the most recent month. One important fact, at the end of this post is that the average online video duration was 2.8 minutes, almost the optimum time for your own videos to keep viewers interest and drive traffic to your site.

Those guys over at ComScore have released figures stating that internet video views are up 64% in the US in the year ending March 31st. The figure is a 13pc gain on February 2008.

Google sites, Google video and YouTube were the top US video sharing sites with more than 4.3 billion videos viewed (38pc market share), 98pc of which was accounted for by YouTube.

Fox Interactive Media ranked second with 477 million videos viewed, 4.2pc market share, followed by Yahoo sites with 328 million, 2.9pc market share and Viacom Digital with 249 million, 2.2pc market share and Microsoft sites came in fifth with 2.1pc of market share, at 245 million video views.

ComScore’s figures show that nearly 139 million people in the US watched an average of 83 videos per viewer in March 2008. Google Sites attracted the most viewers at 85.7 million, with Fox Interactive attracting the second largest amount of viewers at 54.3 million, followed by Yahoo! Sites at 37.5 million.

The research showed that 73.7pc of the total US internet audience viewed online video, with 84.8 million viewers watching 4.3 billion videos on YouTube, averaging 50.4 videos per viewer, and 47.7 million viewers watched 400 million videos on MySpace, averaging 8.4 videos per viewer. The average online video duration was 2.8 minutes and the average online video viewer watched 235 minutes of video, according to ComScore.
