Exploiting The YouTube Name
September 24, 2007 by Bruce Walls
In my earlier post I discussed ways to profit from web videos and one of my ideas was to create your own Google Video site. Well this is equally applicable to YouTube or other video syndication sites and is exactly the same process for creating a YouTube Video site. What ever your interests or niche there will likely be lots of videos available that you can use. Many people are ‘tubing’ now and new sites are appearing regularly.
One such new ‘Tube’ site that has just opened is WineandFoodTube.com and has been created by Australian Darren Vowles. Darren says that the site collects and presents the best of international food and wine content from YouTube.
‘Foodies’, if that is the right word, who are hungry for information and culinary entertainment are expected to visit the site that is collating videos from top chefs and restaurants as well as amateur critics and cooks.
About twenty videos are being added each day to the site and these are being categorized so that wine lovers do not have to trawl through the food categories.
“The site is all about giving this topic that real edge. That’s why people are attracted to YouTube in the first place,” Mr Vowles said.
Melbourne’s Basque restaurant was among the first to post on the new site. Its video is a 32-second tour through the tapas bar on a busy night, past the food, diners, musicians and staff, ending with a shot of the eatery’s shingle.
“It’s been pretty good for us, you can see what we are doing and get a feel for the place, without coming in, that you can’t get from print reviews,” said Basque marketing manager Robyn McLeod.
This is really a great example of what can be created using freely available videos from video sharing sites. In a niche like this there are many ways of monetizing the site as well. Check out the video.
