Become A Video Director At Animoto

November 15, 2007 by Bruce Walls

Here is a great website where you can quickly make a video from images on your hard drive, add music and have it produced all for free. Animoto is the website and the results are first class. You can have website videos and send them to video sharing sites as well in a short time using this service.

The length of an [tag-tec]Animoto[/tag-tec] video is determined by the number of images you include and the music you choose. It can vary since the video is being customized to the music. A video using an upbeat song will use images more quickly than one using a more mellow song. If you are making an Animoto Short video, use 12-20 images for your 30 second piece. Videos up to 30 seconds are free. Videos over 30 secs cost $3.00 and can be as long as the sound track that you select.

If you’re making a full-length video, you can make videos with as many images as you want. The only limit is your music selection as the music will determine the length of the video.

Go to Animoto and sign up for a free account then select which size video you want to make. Before starting your video it is better to do a little preparation by selecting you images and resizing them to a maximum size of 1024×768 for quicker uploading. Images straight off your digital camera can be 100 times the size of what you actually need for an online video. Although you can upload very high-resolution images, smaller downsized images work just as well, and will save you significant upload time. You’re currently able to retrieve images from Flickr, Facebook, Smugmug, Picasa, and Photobucket as well.

Just like using Photo Story 3, imagine yourselve as a director telling a story to give more impact to your short video. Think about the story you want to share, and use your images to tell that story. There’s no real formula for producing a great video. Just use your imagination and share the images you think will make people feel like they were right there with you.

You can arrange your images once they are uploaded and when happy move to the next stage where you add the music. There is a limited choice of music from Electronica, Hip Hop, Indie Rock, Latin and Singer/Songweiter categories. You can also upload your own music.

After the video has been mixed and produced and you feel it could be better then you can go back and remix it and a completely different video will be produced.

When completed you can share your video by email or post it online to Facebook, MySpace and Google Video amoncst others. Code is generated for which ever site you select.

Here is a short video from our recent vacation in Vegas.

    That’s great. That’s a professional slideshow.

Is it easy to use for someone who have no experience in video editing?

Anyway I will go sign up and try.
